About Real Paycheck Calculator

We build the paycheck calculator we always wanted: fast, private, transparent about its math, and current with the tax law.

Why we built this

Most paycheck calculators online are lead magnets for payroll software or financial advisors. They're slow, cluttered and vague about how they get their numbers. Many still don't handle the 2025 tax law changes that affect millions of tipped and overtime workers.

Real Paycheck Calculator does one thing: shows you, line by line, what happens between your gross pay and the money that hits your bank account. Every result can be traced to a published IRS, Social Security Administration or state tax table.

Our principles

  • Show the math. Every calculator shows each tax and deduction, and our methodology explains the formulas.
  • Official sources only. We build from IRS Publication 15-T, IRS revenue procedures, SSA announcements and state revenue departments, cross-checked against the Tax Foundation's state tables.
  • Private by design. All calculations run in your browser. We don't collect what you type, and we don't require an account.
  • Kept current. We review the data whenever federal or state law changes and at least every January, and every page shows when it was last updated.

Editorial standards

Content is written and reviewed by the Real Paycheck Calculator Editorial Team. We test every calculator against hand-computed examples (see the worked examples throughout the site) and fix reported errors promptly. When the law is unclear or still being implemented, such as state conformity with the new tips and overtime deductions, we say so instead of guessing.

Our tools give estimates for planning and are not tax, legal or financial advice. For decisions with real consequences, check with a CPA or enrolled agent, or use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator.
